At Soulful Beginnings, we believe that literacy is the golden ticket to gain access and personal development in our current society.

We decided to create the #SoulfullyRead Book Club for that specific purpose; to expand the vocabulary of our children, provide texts that are relatable, and to build their capacity to have rich discussions. We sincerely hope that you are willing to take on this challenge with us and help the next generation flourish.

How Does This Work?

• Each month we will choose a picture book or a chapter book that has a black boy, girl, or family as the main characters so that we can see ourselves as protagonists.
• You will receive a video recording of the text via email to read with your child, family member, or students. It will also include direct teaching from a specific comprehension skill.
• You will receive a discussion task card with questions to ask your child throughout the read aloud. (Mini Written Response Journal)
• You will receive vocabulary cards for words that are in the text.
