23 Dec Welcome to The Soulful Beginnings Academy!
Alanda McKinney Posey is an Early Childhood advocate and Literacy Specialist who chooses to explore strategic and culturally relevant ways to engage students and teachers. Posey has been in the teaching profession for the past 7 years. She has taught in all the primary grades (K-2), and provided supplemental instruction and enrichment to students in the intermediate grades (3-5). Her teaching experience involves working in two school districts in the upstate area of South Carolina. Posey is currently an Instructional Coach at a local elementary school where she is responsible for the instructional delivery and student achievement in classrooms.
In her first year of teaching, Posey realized that her students did not come to school with the proper skills to be successful in a kindergarten classroom. A kindergarten teaching experience was the basis for every child’s academic career, and as the teacher, Mrs. Posey had to dismiss the idea that “all children can learn” the way that she was taught as a child. There was a definite need for a differentiated classroom that involved teaching the various learning styles that each child brought into the classroom.
Posey entered the profession with the desire to change the narrative of the way students of color were perceived in a school setting. With a small amount of research under her belt that involved “Who is the Best Teacher for the African American male?” Posey decided to “be the change she wanted to see!” Soulful Beginnings Tutoring was birthed in October 2010 as a tutoring service for students in grades 5K to 5th grade.
Soulful Beginnings would become a platform for Alanda M. Posey to help elementary students be successful in the classroom and empower them to be confident enough to “Finish Strong” in the world! Join us on this learning adventure to see how The Soulful Beginnings Academy will begin to transform the lives of children across the upstate.
